The Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) at Paramount General Hospital & ICCU is a Smart-ICU dedicated to caring for critically ill patients with cardiac and other potentially recoverable conditions. The unit provides advanced monitoring and life support technologies for patients with threatened or established organ failure, often due to acute illness or trauma or as part of a treatment plan.
The ICCU leverages advanced respiratory support such as invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, high-flow nasal cannula, and physiotherapy to clear secretions. The unit also offers circulatory support using vasoactive drugs and monitoring of arterial and central venous lines. In addition, patients recently extubated after a prolonged period of intubation and mechanical ventilation can receive specialized care.
Our ICCU is equipped with 5 fully equipped beds with controlled airflow to minimize chances of airborne infections. Our clinical team provides 24/7 onsite monitoring, while our partnership with Cloudphysician offers extended support through remote surveillance, enabling timely detection of deteriorating conditions and ensuring appropriate early interventions to improve patient outcomes.
What is the problem faced with typical ICUs and how does a Smart ICU help patients recover faster?
Night-Time patient monitoring
Typical ICUs
Regular ICU has a different setup for Night-Time patient monitoring. Even though there are doctors on call, data from night monitoring is collated and reviewed the next day.
Smart ICU
Through SMART ICU, Night-Time patient monitoring and data collation happens in real-time. Live video footage and doctors on call are made available throughout: day and night.
Admission
Typical ICUs
Complex cases are permissible but fewer patients can be admitted for 24/7.
Smart ICU
The hospital can handle more complex cases, round-the-clock
Electronic Medical Records
Typical ICUs
Electronic Medical Records: of Patients are based on what the previous doctor has noted as prescriptions (mostly they are not evidence-based protocols) They do not follow real-time evidence-based protocols, so treatment is reactive, not proactive.
Smart ICU
Through SMART ICU, Night-Time patient monitoring and data collation happens in real-time. Live video footage and doctors on call are made available throughout: day and night.
Post operative care
Typical ICUs
No real-time video monitoring for post-operative care, hence patients may take longer to recover.
Smart ICU
Real-time monitoring for post-operative care enables hospital teams to increase surgery effectiveness, post operative care and multispecialty consultations with Specialist Doctors.
How does a SMART ICCU operate?
High Definition Video Cameras capture patient's condition in real-time
Nurses/support team from Cloud Physician monitor all video 24/7
Any exceptions in the patient's condition are immediately spotted
Any aberrations to the patient's vitals are immediately spotted
The doctor on call advises the nurse on the immediate course of action for immediate patient rec
Nurse/ on ground staff perform necessary next steps to bring situation under control
This process is followed 24/7 as per the SOPs
